Holographic TV - While in its earliest stages of development, holographic TV is a technology that is being given serious attention from Japanese technology companies, of whom are hoping to have the technology hit the consumer market by the year 2020. In 2008, researchers at the University of Arizona were able to develop a breakthrough technology: the creation of an updateable 3D display. While this particular display could only be updated after several minutes, there is now hope that it can be further developed to eventually fulfill the need of updating that image several times per second -- a feat that would be required for holographic TV. The net worth of one of these tv's is about $10,400 and up.

Google Reader

On google reader I can organize all of my classwork online. It helps a lot more considering the school is trying to go green so a lot more of my school work will be done online. I can make a folder for each class and include feeds to my teachers web page, their emails, and a website we might be using in class. By using google reader I won't have to worry about remebering a bunch of difficult urls and when to check what web page, everything I need can be seen all on one page at once. Also, when the teacher posts our homework online I have a better chance of seeing what they wrote and knowing what to do, I can also communicate online with them much easier and we can view things at the same time and work on anything I might be having trouble with. Overall I think that Google reader is a very handy tool and in the near future more and more people will begin to see that.

Apple has come up with a brand new computer the Apple II. It is worth a whopping range of $160,000 to $240,000. The computer is up for auction. The Apple-1 computer (original version) was built and sold by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, Apple’s co-founder, for $666,000. It’s estimated that only 200 of these computers were produced and sold before Apple moved onto the next model, the Apple II.According to the auction Web site, this version of the Apple computer is number 82 of those made, and was hand built by Steve Wozniak and then “dispatched from the garage of Steve Jobs’ parents’ house. The computer is part of a Nov. 23 auction in London of rare books and manuscripts that will be available to any rich geek. The finished version of the computer is yet to be seen for the first time at the auction by peoples eyes.

The Brainport technology allows you to see with your tongue, not eyes.About two million optic nerves are required to transmit visual signals from the retina—the portion of the eye where light information is decoded or translated into nerve pulses—to the brain's primary visual cortex. With BrainPort, the device being developed by neuroscientists at Middleton, Wisc; visual data can be collected through a small digital video camera about 1.5 centimeters in diameter that sits in the center of a pair of sunglasses worn by the user. Bypassing the eyes, the data are transmitted to a handheld base unit, which is a little larger than a cell phone.

Working with funds from DARPA, researchers at Cornell University, the University of Chicago and iRobot came up with an ideal robotic gripping device, simply a latex party balloon filled with ground coffee. They are calling it the Kinetic Gripper, it was made so that once perfected it can be used on actual robots as their hands for an easier and much simpler grip on things.

Reflection of Article

After reading the article online about misleading threats I thought that it was rude and extremely uncalled for, even anonymously to say something so volgur (sp?) on the internet. Its cause a big stir over someone running their mouth off, so I think that if someone is willing to make such a remark then they should go ahead and say it to the other persons face and face the consequences. I think that keeping anonymous comments is still a good thing, I still think that anyone should be able to state their opinion freely w/o worry online and that they shouldn't get rid of it because of one dumb remark. Whether or not you like someone or agree with them, there just are some things that are meant to be kept to yourself.

A new projector allows floating 3D objects – from a model of the heart to a talking human head – to be viewed from any angle. The Ray Modeler prototype, developed by Sony, is on display for the first time in the UK at an exhibit at the British Library, London, called General Knowledge. The device creates 3D images that viewers can see from all angles without stereoscopic glasses. Sensors that recognise gestures allow it to be spun around when you wave your hand in the desired direction. The system can recreate both static and moving objects. A static object can be captured on a turntable with a single camera, whereas many cameras are needed to capture motion. The shots are transformed into 360 images to be displayed by an LED light source in the system.

Microsoft Surface (codename Milan) is a mulit-touch product from Microsoft which is developed as a software and hardware combination technology that allows a user, or multiple users, to manipulate digital content by the use of gesture recognition This could involve the motion of hands or physical objects. It was announced on May 29, 2007 at a D5 conference. Targeted customers are in the hospitality businesses, such as restaurants, hotels, retail, public entertainment venues and the military for tactical overviews. The preliminary launch was on April 17, 2008, when Surface became available for customer use in AT&T stores. So far the new computer has only been available to hotels, cosinos, etc.  Microsoft Surface is said to have a release date sometime in 2011 for everyday customers to buy.

Weekend

On Friday we had a volleyball game and then I went to my friend Heathers Sweet 16. On Saturday I went to the mall and the football game. On Sunday the volleyball team had to run a concession stand for the runners at the 5K run. We had to give them water, bananas, and granola bars. There was about a hundred runners, and it was fun helping all of them out.

Microsoft's Lightspace technology

It is a new fun way of making presentations. This is said to either make using power point much more difficult or more fun depending on the presenter. The LightSpace prototype projects slides, documents, photographs or video onto any surface, from a table to a door. Presenters can then touch and literally pick up a virtual item from a display and carry it across the room as a spot of light in the palm of their hand.  While this is still a prototype, it is expected that Microsoft comes out with an actual 3D power point presenter in about two years.

Facetime alows you to make video calls to other people. The phone also icludes something called retina display, which is makes all of your pictures and videos look even better then any of the cameras on the iphones. The ipod 4 is also said to make much better gaming, that is because now you can play games online against anyone is the world which you also couldnt do before. Overall the ipod 4 seems like a great creation.

US History!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a painting of the real Pocahontas and explorer John Smith,
as you can tell very different from the Disney movie!

US History!!!!!!!!!!!

In US History we are learning about the real Pocahontas. We are learning about her and the explorer. We actually learn that in real life Pocahontas is much more different than the Disney movie itself, an example is that Pocahontas is actually only 13 but she seems much older in the movie. I really enjoyed learning about her, here is a youtube video to the trailer for Pocahontas the Disney movie.

Weekend.

This weekend , on Saturday morning the entire volleyball team went to a Volleyball Tournament in William Paterson University to support the varsity volleyball team. We were there from 7:30 am till 3:00 pm. There was about ten teams that they played against and although all of the teams were very good, the varsity team played so well that they got second place and came neck in neck with the other team but at the end of the game they scored a few more points than us. I was really proud of all of the girls on our team because they all played so well. The volleyball team coach for William Paterson was also there with the entire team which has a girl on the team that is a WRHS alumni, here is a link for their website. William Paterson Volleyball

Blackberry Torch

The wireless company AT&T has released the Blackberry Torch 9800, on Aug. 12, and cost $199 with a two-year contract with AT&T. The phone uses RIM's new Operating System 6, which includes a badly needed re-do of the BlackBerry Web browser, which is painfully slow and frustrating to use. The new browser is called the Torch Mobile browser. It is based on WebKit, the same engine used by Apple and Google. The Torch, has a qwerty keyboard and a touch-screen keyboard . It has a 3.2-inch, 360-by-480 capacitive touch-screen display. The phone, with Wi-Fi, has pinch-to-zoom on the touchscreen, something the iPhone and other devices already feature. It also has a 5-megapixel camera with flash and autofocus, as well as "environment" settings. The camera names pictures by location. The Blackberry Torch 9800 overall seems like a pretty good phone except for the internet issue because that does cause many problems for any of the people that are using it.
